At 01m47s, Spencer arrives here in his red Ford Escort to wait for Kate to arrive around 02m11s. This street no longer exists having been built on.

As Kate pulls alongside Spencer the building behind them is still there.

At 05m25s Spencer arrives here to tell former Police Superintendent Billings that Arthur will collect Ernie when he leaves prison. Billings then tells Spencer about Ernie’s court case.

 

DRIVING TO HAMPSTEAD HEATH 1/ERNIE THROWS CLOTHES FROM THE CAR – THEN & NOW

As soon as Ernie is released from prison, he sets off with Arthur and Terry to Hampstead. At 10 minutes Ernie throws his clothes out of Arthur’s car on Deodar Road.

Along the way, they turn from Lower Terrace to Upper Terrace, NW3 (formerly NW6).

Just after 12 minutes, Arthur’s jag is now seen approaching Heath Road on Downshire Hill, near Willow Road.

First seen at 17m06s, with nowhere to stay, Arthur and Terry take Ernie to this hotel where much of this episode is based. The hotel is situated on the east side of Tower Bridge.

At 27m16s, Arthur, Terry and Ernie go here where Ernie is expecting to collect his money.

After Ernie realises he’s been turned over he storms out and we catch a brief glimpse of the buildings opposite.

At 35m04s we see Billings leaving this police station.

 

DRIVING TO THE PET SHOP – THEN & NOW

At 42m42s, Arthur, Terry and Ernie are driving along this road on their way to the pet shop, the camera position at the corner of Luttrell Avenue.

 

WIDOW’S PET SHOP – THEN & NOW

Just after 43 minutes, Ernie, Arthur and Terry all arrive at this location looking for Mrs Knight, the widow of the bank manager that stole Ernie’s cash.

They are soon joined by Kate, Billings and Spencer.

 

CAR CHASE 1 – KATE & TERRY PURSUE SPENCER – THEN & NOW  

LACY ROAD/GWALIOR ROAD/MASCOTTE ROAD, SW15 

At 46m, Spencer decides to leave the shop claiming he will go to the press with Ernie’s story. Kate and Terry go after him in Kate’s Porsche.

 

Deciding not to pursue Spencer into Gwalior Road, Kate and Terry drive straight on and turn left into Mascotte Road.

 

CAR CHASE 2 – KATE & TERRY PURSUE SPENCER – THEN & NOW 

FLORIAN ROAD, SW15 

At 46m26s, we see Spencer speeding along here after his left turn in the previous scene. This is just under a mile away from where he turns left.

 

CAR CHASE 3 – KATE & TERRY PURSUE SPENCER – THEN & NOW

MERIVALE ROAD, SW15

At 46m32s, Kate’s Porsche is driving along this road.

 

CAR CHASE 4 – KATE & TERRY PURSUE SPENCER – THEN & NOW  

RANELAGH GARDENS/EDENHURST AVENUE, SW6 

The chase then continues on the other side of the Thames, with the Escort driving past Napier Court.

Kate & Terry can then be seen approaching from Edenhurst Avenue in the Porsche.

The chase finally ends at the arch at the end of Ranelagh Gardens, where Terry gets out and pursues on foot.

 

TERRY CHASES SPENCER ON FOOT – THEN & NOW 

FULHAM RAILWAY BRIDGE, RIVER THAMES

The final part of the chase scene is on Fulham Railway Bridge, just along the river from Putney Bridge.
