First seen at the start of the episode, Dave’s sister Betty lives at house number 6.

At 13m33s, Arthur & Ray bring Sidney here and take Sidney to Brighton in the caravan.

 

Around 14 minutes, whilst Arthur and Ray bundle Sidney into the back of the caravan with a blanket over his head and drive away, they are watched by a neighbour who phones Dave at the Winchester club. The neighbour lives at number 41 Mount Park Crescent.

Before the end of part one, they are seen driving Sidney away along Mount Park Crescent.

 

BERNIE ‘THE BOSH’ GETS RELEASED FROM PRISON – THEN & NOW

At 16m05s, Arthur and Ray stop suddenly here after Arthur sees a red traffic light.

The same location features at 17m48s as the police see Sidney hanging from the window of the caravan.

At 16m49s, the Volvo and caravan are seen driving at this location, with a camera clearly positioned on the footbridge near Holmshill Lane.

 

During this scene Ray asks Arthur if Dave is aware that he has borrowed the caravan. Arthur replies that Dave is not in the frame and this is a private arrangement.

 

SIDNEY’S WAREHOUSE – THEN & NOW

At 19m40s, Bernie ‘The Bosh’ visits Sidney’s warehouse, located on the same estate as Arthur’s lockup.

At 21m27s, following Sidney’s distressing experience in the back of the caravan, they stop at this motorway service station.

At 22m51s, Arthur tells Sidney they will be in Brighton in about half an hour when the front tyre of the car bursts sending it out of control.

At 23m33s, Bernie ‘The Bosh’ visits Sidney’s house attempting to find him. This is found on the same street as where Betty, Dave’s sister lives and Sadie’s mother!

At 24m14s, we catch a glimpse of the Royal Pavilion as Arthur, Ray and Sidney arrive in Brighton.

 

At 42m09s this location features again as Arthur & Sidney are at their wit’s end and Arthur realises that “if all else fails the lord will provide” seeing The Salvation Army.

Next after passing Brighton Pavillion, and not certain of their directions, Arthur and Ray turn left from Old Steine into Marine Parade.

At 24m59s, we catch a glimpse of The Lanes Hotel on the seafront at Marine Parade through the window of the car.

At 25m06s, after passing The Lanes Hotel, another building is visible through the car window fronting Marine Parade which stands on a narrow plot between Royal Crescent Mews and Burlington Street.

At 25m23s, disagreeing on their direction of travel, Arthur and Ray approach Brighton Marina on Marina Way, with Arthur claiming that the marina wasn’t there before.

At 25m30s, with Ray claiming that Arthur has got them lost again, they continue along Marina Way and away from the marina itself.

At 25m50s, Arthur tells Ray to continue straight up – still on Marina Way, they cross traffic lights at the junction with Roedean Road and continue ahead along Wilson Avenue.

At 25m08s, after Sidney says “Moses didn’t take this long to find the promised land”, the car is driving along Wilson Avenue towards the T-junction with Warren Road.

At 26m13s, Arthur finally spots Brighton racecourse and we see a shot of the main stand.

At 26m21s, after Arthur tells Ray to check a left, still near the T-junction with Warren Road, they turn on to the racecourse itself with a view of the stand about a mile away.

At 33m30s, after spending a night on the beach with Sidney, Arthur tries to call Ray from a phone box on the seafront at this location.

 

At 37m48s, Arthur & Sidney are just along from this location opposite 132 Kings Road, known more recently as The Melrose Restaurant – near the site of Brighton’s old West Pier. Sadly, this pier was destroyed by what is believed to be an arson attack in 2003 and very little remains except ruins today. Read more here.

At 35m37s, Arthur & Sidney go to look for help from old acquaintance Billy Jacks, located at 3 Chichester Place.

Moments later Arthur & Sidney get a bucket of water thrown over them and we see a shot of the houses opposite.

 

RAY FINDS THE SKINHEAD – THEN & NOW 

CAFE ROYAL, 20 ABBEY ROAD, NW10 

At 37 minutes Ray spots the skinhead who Sidney thinks he has hired entering this cafe.

Ray then parks the Volvo on the corner of Abbey Road just opposite the cafe, with a view of Acton Lane.

 

ARTHUR & SIDNEY TRY THE GRAND HOTEL – THEN & NOW

At 40m36s, Arthur & Sidney attempt to get some breakfast at this hotel with Arthur telling Sidney he is the voice of authority.

 

ARTHUR & SIDNEY TRY ANOTHER HOTEL – THEN & NOW  

ROYAL ALBION HOTEL, 35 OLD STEINE, BRIGHTON, BN1 1NT 

At 41m26s, Arthur & Sidney are thrown out of a second hotel, the Royal Albion Hotel.

 

They then walk back towards the seafront as Sidney informs Arthur that he believes Arthur is not a well man. Arthur responds by telling Sidney that he is not looking too healthy himself.

 

 SALVATION ARMY HALL & CANTEEN – THEN & NOW 

BRIGHTON CONGRESS HALL SALVATION ARMY, 1-6 PARK CRESCENT TERRACE, BRIGHTON, BN23HD 

First seen at 42m58s, the final scenes were all shot in the lower hall of the old Brighton Congress Hall. Demolished in the year 2000 the hall was rebuilt at the same location, shown here.
