Opening Titles
The opening titles for series 1 to 7 were filmed in Arthur’s original car lot, featured on our Car Lots page and feature six black & white shots. The opening titles used in The Ray Daley Years (series 8 to 10) can be found at the bottom of this page here. The original end credits appeared from series 1 through to 7. According to George Cole, the photographs seen were shot a few weeks before the first episode was actually filmed, probably sometime in April 1979.

The first three black and white shots are of Arthur & Terry as Terry leaves prison, outside the entrance of Wormwood Scrubs.

The last three black and white shots show Arthur and Terry leaving what looks to be a club with two ladies, both of whom apparently worked as extras for Euston films.

End Credits
The original end credits feature a series of 16 shots all taken in black & white of Terry and Arthur in various parts of London. Shots 1 and 2 of the original end credits were taken in Arthur’s original car lot and always contained the actors/actresses for that particular episode.

This bridge crosses the river Thames and is situated just south of Hammersmith town centre on the north side. Both pedestrians and traffic can cross the bridge to Barnes on the south side.

LEANING LAMPPOST, NEWMAN PASSAGE NR RATHBONE STREET, W1
The shots show Arthur and Terry walking past a leaning lamppost and posing as if they were holding it up. The location of the lamppost is in the small alleyway called Newman Passage, just off Rathbone Street nr Oxford Street.
The lamppost was a tourist attraction in the 70s and 80s where people posed as if they were trying to straighten it. The lamppost has now been removed and a new one is in its place.
